Quantcast Miami Heat 2008: Heat steamroll Kings

Heat protect their turf, steamroll Kings

After a loss against the New York Knicks, Coach Spoeltra let everybody know there had to be some changes made to the Heats attitude toward the defense and the Heat delivered by nagging the Kings during every possession of the game as a result rolling to a 103-77 Heat win. The Heat may not have size but did show that they have heart and that defense is not only played with size forcing 25 turnovers from the Kings costing them 41pts. on turnovers alone. The Heat pestered the Kings robbing them 15 times and rejecting the ball 8 times. The whole game Miami seemed like a completely different squad from the one that took the floor at Madison Square Garden opening night; the defense was flowing together, players were throwing ally oops to one another, and they were setting each other up in there comfort zones. Coach Spoelstra was fanominal letting every player know that he means business, yanking Beasley out twice because of failed defensive assignment. The Heat only allowed three players on the Kings to reach double figures, only one being a starter (John Salmons 14pts.). The Heat held the Kings franchise player Kevin Martin to 9pts. The Kings only managed to shoot 38% from the field.

Players stepping up

Most people see the Heat as a team with three all-star caliber players but after the past two showings from Haslem I beg to differ, Haslem has held his own player the C position with ease. Haslem despite being held out the fourth quarter managed to shoot 54%,grab 6 rebounds, and score 14pts coming off a dominating performance in the Gardan. Wade was simply spectacular connecting on 58% of his shots, snatching 4 rebounds, dropping 8 dimes, swiping 4 steals, and rejecting half of the Heats total blocked shot with 4 blocks of his own but sadly he continued having trouble holding the ball with 5 turnovers. Michael Beasley did not want to dissapoint two times especially not on his Miami Heat home debut just barely missing his first career NBA double-double with 17pts and 9 rebounds shooting 46% from the field and adding a blocked shot and a steal. Beasley calmed down and played his game not trying to do too much and shot only one three as he played more aggressively drawing two fouls. Shawn Marion finding his role on the team grabbing 10 rebounds, passing out 3 dimes, swiping four steals, scoring 13pts and sending the ball back with 3 blocks. Cook continued his hot streak firing three downtown shots in the game while shooting 50% from down town and adding 6 rebounds. Now Heat fans let's not get too happy remember that this was a rebuilding Kings with Brad Miller out but if the Heat continue to play with such confidence we may just be seeing a playoff berth in the future. Tonight the Heat meet the Bobcats as they attempt to build on there winning streak on Coach Spoelstra's birthday.
