The past few seasons have come down to the wire with close MVP races between the leagues premier players. Unfortunately, this year is not the case. LeBron James has stolen the show and is going to be the back-to-back Most Valuable Player. He has proven time and time again that he is the epitome of being valuable to his team. Most recently, he sat out against Milwaukee for rest, and the Cavs lost their 10th straight game without having LeBron James suited up. You can’t say the same about any other player in league. He continues to put up huge numbers night in and night out, recording triple doubles seemingly on a nightly basis. Unless they lose every game left in the regular season, LeBron James is the 2009-2010 MVP.

Kobe Bryant has been nothing short of spectacular this season. He has numerous game-winning shots, and if you take away just a couple them, you could find Lakers not being the number 1 seed in the West for the first time since 2007. Kobe missed a few weeks with an ankle injury, and although they had a winning record, he was missed in one particular game very much. The Boston Celtics had a one point advantage over the Lakers with a few seconds left, resulting in a wild Derek Fisher shot trying to draw contact instead of getting a good look. Every Laker fan wanted Kobe to pull a Willis Reed and come out at that moment just to hit the game winning shot. Statistically, it is not Kobe’s best year, but he understands it is all about the big picture in June. He has every individual accolade imaginable, so he is focused on bringing another championship to Los Angeles.

Seeing Kevin Durant’s name among Kobe and LeBron’s must be humbling for the third year phenom scorer. Fact of the matter is that he has been the backbone of this OKC Thunder who was expected to get another lottery pick, but is sitting in the sixth seed of the West and could end up top four with the way they have been playing lately. He has had the most 25+ point games this season, and even a streak of 29 straight games with 25+. This feat is second to only Michael Jordan at 40 straight games. He is tightly chasing LeBron James for a scoring title, just .04 behind James in points. Although he won’t win MVP this year, he will be on top of this list sooner rather than later.
