Quantcast 2010 Nuggets Nuggets: Nuggets vs Jazz

Nuggets vs. Jazz Series Preview and Prediction

The Nuggets and Jazz begin their playoff series Saturday, in what is a showdown of division rivals who finished with identical records and played each other close in 4 games this season. While the games may be tight, the series will not last long.

The teams are evenly matched, but Denver showed its superiority during the regular season going 3-1 against the Jazz by winning both their home games and taking 1 in Utah. Utah’s sole victory came when Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups were both out of action. Denver will also have Kenyon Martin back in the line up while Andrei Kirilenko will be missing for Utah.

While Denver’s struggles on the road have been well documented this season, the Jazz had an equally rough time away from home going 21-20 compared to Denver’s 19-22 record, and no one questions the Nugget’s ability to win at home where they went 34-7. The Nuggets will also have the confidence of knowing they can beat the Jazz in Utah, where they won during the regular season despite not having Anthony or Billups.

The Jazz had 2 opportunities this year to face the Nuggets without their 2 best players, but still went 1-3 against them. In the games both played in, Anthony scored 30 and 35 while Billups put in 25 and 29. Denver also finished with a 12-4 record within the division while Utah went 8-8. Advantage Nuggets.

Factor in the return of Martin for Denver and the absence of Kirilenko for Utah and the series should be over quickly. Look for the games to be close (none of the 4 games this year were decided by more than 10 points) with Denver taking the series in 5 games to advance the 2nd round where they will most likely face the LA Lakers in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals.
