Houston Rockets @ Charlotte Bobcats Preview
The Houston Rockets will play away from home just twice more in January. One of those matchups come against one of the better home teams in the Eastern Conference. The Charlotte Bobcats welcome the Rockets on Tuesday night to the Time Warner Cable Arena, where they are 13-4 this season—good for fourth best in the conference. Charlotte beat the Memphis Grizzlies 89-87 on Saturday with a buzzer-beating tip-in from Gerald Wallace. The win kicked off a six game homestand before ending the month playing five of their last six contests away from home.
Stephen Jackson, who was traded to the Bobcats earlier in the year, is finding his groove, averaging 25.5 points in his last six appearances. Combined with Gerald Wallace’s production, the foward-combo is scoring over 44 points during that span. Tyson Chandler has missed the last eight games with a foot injury and is out for tonight’s matchup. The Bobcats, the NBA’s top scoring defense—but one of the league’s worst offensive teams—have won six of their last nine.
Houston, typically a very sound defensive squad under Coach Rick Adleman’s system, has been average on the defensive end, but picked up some offensive swagger so far this season. The Rockets take almost 23 three-point attempts per game, tied for third in the NBA with Phoenix. After losing three straight to begin the New Year, Houston knocked off the New York Knicks on Saturday with a strong second-half comeback. Luis Scola matched a career-high with 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Point-guard Aaron Brooks scored 20 points agains the Knicks and is averaging over 24 points a game in his last seven matchups. Houston has lost three straight on the road.
