Hawks 102 @ Rockets 95 - Recap
Despite a strong second half rally, the Houston Rockets dropped its second straight home game 102-95 to a Hawks team playing some of its best basketball this season. Atlanta, winners of eight of the last ten matchups, rode an overpowering second quarter to an 11-point halftime lead. Powered by Josh Smith’s double-double effort, the Hawks were able to fight off a late rally to secure its first win in Houston in 10 games. The Hawks are the East’s best answer for Western Conference opponents, boasting a 13-4 record against what some call a deeper division.
Smith finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Johnson added 20 points, while Jamal Crawford scored 17 points from the bench. Houston’s poor shooting ultimately kept them from overcoming such a deficit. The Rockets shot just 39.8 percent from the floor—the worst of it Aaron Brooks and Trevor Ariza, who were a combined 10-of-31. Even Carl Landry, who had a team-high 16 points, was 4-of-12 from the field. Houston has lost three of its last four home games, and the schedule does not lighten up as they welcome some of the West’s best this week.
