Heat 115 @ Rockets 106 - Recap
A scintillating performance from a nicked up Dwayne Wade halted the Houston Rockets’ home winning streak at eight straight. The Rockets’ 106-115 defeat marked the first time they have lost in the Toyota Center since November 27. Making nine of their first 13 attempts from the field, Houston got an early lead, but 12 points in the quarter from Wade brought the Heat within two points to end the period.
Houston uncharacteristically allowed the Heat to shoot 53.6 percent from the field, including 6-14 from behind the arc. A 35-24 second quarter, with 11 points from Wade, gave Miami a nine-point lead at the break and got a little more cushion in the third quarter. Wade finished with 37 points and eight dimes, though battling through a sprained right wrist. Jermaine O’Neal scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds with four blocks. All of Miami’s starters scored in double digits. Rafer Alston, making a return to his former city, went 7-of-10 from the field with 17 points.
The wear and tear from Wednesday night’s triple-overtime win against Minnesota seemed apparent as the Rockets were sluggish, letting down defensively when they are typically stout. Luis Scola and Chase Budinger led the team in scoring with 17 points apiece. Aaron Brooks scored 14 points and struggled from the three-point line, making just one out of six. Houston gets the weekend off before an unusual 3 p.m. start hosting the Bucks on Monday.
