Quantcast 2009-2010 Oklahoma City Thunder: Thunder vs Spurs

Spurs 109 @ Thunder 108 OT - Recap

Two of the hottest teams in the West got together Wednesday night as the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder jockeyed to stay on winning streaks.

The Spurs sprinted out to a 17-point first quarter lead, aided by 16 points from Tony Parker. A highly offensive second quarter left the Spurs up 63-51 at the break.

But a wild ending left the Spurs triumphant and the Thunder heartbroken.

A couple of runs in the third quarter brought the Thunder out of its deficit, taking a one-point lead into the fourth.

After scoring 22 points in the first half, Parker went 0-6 in the second half before hitting a jumper with ten seconds left to go up 99-97. Russell Westbrook responded with his own 16-footer to force overtime.

With Oklahoma City up 108-107 with 20 seconds left in the extra period, a diving save by Manu Ginobili got the ball to Richard Jefferson, who nailed a jumper with nine seconds to go.

The Thunder needed every one of Kevin Durant’s 35 points, but as time expired, Westbrook’s final attempt to win the game clanked off the back-iron. He scored 23 points and had 13 assists. Jeff Green added 16 points and ten rebounds.

Rookie DeJuan Blair, who played in place of star forward Tim Duncan, scored career highs in points, 28, and rebounds, 21, but fouled out in overtime. Parker finished with 28 points, including a crucial three-pointer in the extra time. He also had eight assists. Ginobili had 16 points and seven dimes, while Richard Jefferson added 13 points.

Coach Gregg Popovich rested Duncan, who played 40 minutes in Tuesday night’s win over the Lakers.

The Thunder take on another Texas power on Friday when they travel to Dallas.
