Quantcast 2010-2011 Chicago Bulls Basketball: Bulls vs Blazers

Chicago Bulls Improve to 2-1 As Deng Drops 40 On Portland

Its kind of crazy to think how well this young Chicago Bulls team is playing early in this 2010-2011 NBA season, and this is all happening without Carlos Boozer in the lineup as of yet. The Portland Trail Blazers (3-1) came to the United Center in Chicago, and were attempting to start their season 4-0 for the first time since 1992. The Chicago Bulls (2-1) made sure that they did not achieve that goal, beating Portland by a final score of 110-98.

One game after Derrick Rose threw down 39 points on the Detroit Pistons, Luol Deng did his best Rose impression, by dropping 40 points on the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. Lamarcus Aldridge led all Portland scorers with 33 points, while the Bulls held the hot shooting Brandon Roy to just 17 points. Roy came into this game averaging 23.0 points per game.

New Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was happy with the effort his team put forth after the game. “Portland is a quality team.” Thibodeau added, “We did allot of good things tonight to get the win.”

Derrick Rose, who is currently 2nd in the NBA in scoring, averaging 27.7 points per game, scored 16 points of his own, while handing out 13 assists. Many times when Portland double teamed Rose, he would just kick the ball out to the open, unguarded shooter, who on this night, obviously was Loul Deng.

Ironically, Deng had somewhat of a prophetic statement about his performance before the game. “I’m not happy about my start offensively, but I’m also not worried, because I know it will come around.” He couldn’t have been more correct on this night.

Joakim Noah had another solid outing, scoring 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. In Chicago’s three games thus far, Noah has scored a double double in all 3, scoring in double digits, and doing the same in grabbing rebounds. Joakim Noah currently ranks 2nd in the NBA in rebounding, averaging 15.3 rebounds per game.

Next up on the Chicago Bulls schedule, Amar’e Stoudemire and the upstart New York Knicks travel to Chicago in a Thursday night game, that will be broadcasted on TNT.
