Rose Throws Down 39 On Pistons In Bulls Win

The Chicago Bulls (1-1) won their home opener in dramatic fashion Saturday, coming back from a 21-point deficit in the third quarter to beat the Detroit Pistons (0-3) by a final score of 101-91. Fans at the United Center were chanting MVP over Derrick Rose’s performance late in the game, and they had good reason to do so. Rose tied a career high in scoring with 39 points, and looked like he could just score at will many times late in the game. Chicago ended up outscoring Detroit 34-9 in the 4 th quarter, and at times, it looked like Rose couldn’t miss a shot.

Former Chicago Bull Ben Gordon led Detroit in scoring with 21 points, and from his comments after the game, it appears that Rose has left quite an impression on him. “I felt like we just didn’t make the right adjustments as a team. Derrick Rose was really hot, and it seemed like he could do whatever he wanted to.” Of the few shots that Rose did miss late in the game, teammates were there to put them back in the basket. Joakim Noah had a tip in basket off a Rose miss late in the game, while James Johnson and Taj Gibson each had thunderous dunks of rose misses late in the game as well.

Derrick Rose led all Bulls in scoring with his 39 points, and also had 6 rebounds, while handing out 7 assists. Joakim Noah had another solid game, and also had his second double double in as many games. Noah had 15 points to go along with 17 rebounds. Taj Gibson also scored in double figures for the Bulls, throwing down 11 points.

New Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau got his first win as a head coach in the NBA in this game, and sounded very pleased with his players efforts after the game. “It was a great win, and there were allot of guys who did some things that were helpful.” Besides the win, the Chicago Bulls also received some other good news yesterday as well. Bulls forward Carlos Boozer will have his cast removed next week, and will be fitted with a soft cast. He will have the pins removed from his broken pinky finger, and rehab will start soon after that.
