Quantcast 2011 NBA Eastern Conference Finals: Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls

Miami Take the Lead 2-1 in the Series Thanks to a Career Game from Bosh

Going into the game, I thought it would be interesting to see how Chicago would react to the loss at home that they received just a couple of nights before, and also how Miami would react to being back in front of the sea of white shirts that make up their home crowd.

Again, this would be a game of defences as both teams suffocated the opposing offences early in the game. Block after block after block made for an exciting, but rather stifled first quarter. Joel Anthony was particularly strong in this department, as was Lebron James who would deny Carlos Boozer an ‘easy’ lay up. Nothing is easy in the playoffs, Carlos.

I like how Erik Spoelstra, despite still opting for speed over height predominantly, is still allowing Chris Bosh to play his style of basketball. He began to heat up in the second quarter and finished the half strong with 16 points. I had flashbacks to the first game of the series at this point when Bosh started knocking down jumper after jumper, where Bosh scored most of the points and Miami lost due to a lack of help from Lebron James and Dwayne Wade. Although the pair did not have standout games in this one, they did play well and finished with 22 and 17 points respectively.

A player for the Heat who did stand out for me was Mike Bibby. His passing is second to none and is so valuable to a team that has so many players who can exploit the well timed passes and the space that he creates. With a defence focused primarily on the speed of Wade and the strength of Lebron, Bibby is often overlooked, leading to a wide open three or some penetration that leads to an opening. His numbers on the night didn’t do him justice in my opinion, he is much more valuable that they give him credit for.

The night was all about Chris Bosh, however. He was fired up and finished the game with 34 points and 5 rebounds and contributed immensely to the energy and flow that Miami finished the game with.

So far, we have yet to see the full force of Derrick Rose thanks to excellent defence from Miami. Chicago will need to get him going if they are to level this series.

All the best from the UK!

Final Score (CHI) 85 – (MIA) 96
