Quantcast 2011 Los Angeles Lakers Basketball: Lakers vs Blazers

Lakers Beat Trailblazers in the Final Seconds of Regulation

When a team has won 11 of its last 12 games and your team is next on their list, what goes through your mind? Well, I can guarantee that the Portland Trailblazers were thinking, “We can win this”! They are no strangers to Staples Center and the vociferous crowd that love to cheer their Lakers on and they came mighty close to ending a big win streak in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Both teams looked shaky early in the game and were giving up far too much dribble penetration, allowing eachother to attack the basket freely. It took the first quarter for the players to get their eye in but by the second, we had battles going on all over the court. Nicolas Batum and Kobe Bryant were battling it out for the points, while Gerald Wallace and Ron Artest were having a slightly more physical battle and had to be separated after things began to get out of hand between the two.

The Lakers saved their smack talk and carried on playing great basketball. They had to though to overcome the 6 point deficit. With the game hanging in the balance, the Trailblazers seemed to panic. A steal from Kobe and two excellent (and one seemingly impossible) jumpers put the Lakers ahead. All it took then was the cool, calm and collected veteran, Derrick Fisher to be just that. And he sank a great pressure shot to put the game out of Portland’s reach.

Final Score: (POR) 80 – (LAL) 84
