Quantcast 2011 Los Angeles Lakers Basketball: Lakers vs Spurs

Lakers End Their Losing Streak With a Win Against the Spurs

With the Lakers on a five game losing streak going into this game, who better to face than the team that you have been playing catch up with all season. The San Antonio Spurs have now locked up the number one seed in the Western Conference Playoffs, but the Lakers still had everything to play for and both teams came ready to play in this one. The Lakers really needed this win to gather some momentum going into the playoffs and stay in front of the Mavericks, but just like any other win, it didn’t come easy.

Despite the rather flattering scoreline, the game was very close for the most part. Kobe got 16 points in the first half and would go on to get 27 on the night, followed closely by the ever present Lamar Odom, who more than made up for the unfortunate loss of Andrew Bynum after he hyper extended his knee and had to leave the game. Odom got 23 points and 7 rebounds.

The game still stayed close in the second and third quarters, even when San Antonio brought on their bench. But the Lakers always managed to stay a comfortable distance ahead and by the fourth they had increased their lead to 11 to put the game beyond any doubt.

It is very encouraging for the Lakers to have beaten the number one seed (again), and it is made even more special because this win now ends their five game losing streak. They did lose Bynum though, so Lakers fans will be anxiously awaiting the verdict on his knee in the hope that he will be ready for the playoffs.

Final Score (SAS) 93 – (LAL) 102
