Quantcast 2010-2011 NBA: Summer MVP Preictions

Summer Prediction: Most Valuable Player

The 2010-2011 season is going to have a lot of the same faces, but in new places. We have seen strong offeasons from Miami, LA, and Boston but how has the MVP race changed? Many Basketball analysts thought that LeBron James was a lock to win the Most Valuable Player award for the next five years.

That all changed when he decided to take his talents to South Beach. Previously in my MVP rankings, I had predicted LeBron James to win which he did, but his role has changed dramatically. His statistics are going to suffer from sharing the ball more with his extremely talented teammates. This leads to the question, who is going to be the 2011 MVP?

  • Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers- The Black Mamba has emerged as the front-runner for this award. The award should be back in LA as long as he continues his leadership, statistically does not drop off drastically from last year, and if the Lakers win the west.

  • Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder- After a breakout season and winning the scoring title, Kevin Durant is seeking more this season. Another year of maturity will do a lot for this kid. He will statistically be superior than Kobe Bryant, but will he lead his team to enough victories to be able to hoist the MVP trophy at the end of the season? I dont believe so. But it is possible if the Thunder finish in the top three in the west.

  • LeBron James- You can never count this man out. Although his points may drop down to 23 or so, he might be flirting with a triple double average in a Magic Johnson type role in Miami. Analysts are also predicting the Heat to have a chance to break the wins record of 72 set by the 96’ Bulls, and if that happens then LeBron will emerge as the frontrunner for this award. But for a team that will struggle with chemistry and egos, it will be tough for James to win a third consecutive Most Valuable Player.
