Quantcast 2012 New York Knicks Basketball: Knicks Update

Knicks Looking Like Title Contender

Mike Woodson has Knicks playing up to potential

With four games remaining in the regular season, the NY Knicks look like the title contender we all thought they would be when the season started. No matter what seed the Knicks finish with entering the playoffs, they are the third best team in the Eastern Conference. No, that's not a typo. Carmelo Anthony has been lights out, putting up another impressive stat line last night with 33 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assist. Mike Woodson has the Knicks playing their best basketball of the season at the right time. Since he has stepped in as coach the Knicks are 15-5, and Tyson Chandler is the Defensive Player of the Year! No doubt about it. Some might argue for Dwight Howard, Lebron James, or even Serge Ibaka but all of those guys play on defensive minded teams already that would continue to play that way with or without them. Chandler came to NY and changed the culture of the locker room and improved the Knicks defense from one of the worst to one of the best. In his first year they have gone from 27th in points allowed (105.7 a game) to 10th (94.5 a game)! With the signing of Chandler, drafting Iman Shumpert, and free agent pick-ups J.R. Smith and Steve Novak, the Knicks went from a team that you hoped had enough fire power to stay competitive, to a team that is one of the best right now! Take that last comment and think about it....as up and down as the Knicks season has been this year, they still have beaten every playoff team in the Eastern Conference except for the Miami Heat! They beat the Celtics, Pacers, and Sixers twice and manhandled the Magic in both their victories. They split their two games with the Hawks and beat the Bulls in what was possibly the game of the year.

These 2012 Knicks are for real! Anyone who faces them in the playoffs will have to clear their schedule because it's going to be a long series! They won't shy away from the moment, proven by their recent performance against the Bulls and Celtics. They are ready for playoff basketball, just ask the Heat about the atmosphere at MSG this past Sunday. After everything they have been through this year, horrible slump to start the season, Linsanity saving the season, the so called "Melo-drama" and how he would fit in with Jeremy Lin, injuries, D'antoni stepping down, oh and lets not forget playing 66 games in 124 days, the Knicks appear to be peaking at the right time. Momentum is everything heading into the playoffs; just ask Eli Manning and the NY Giants. The last time NYC and Madison Square Garden had this feeling, Larry Johnson was doing that stupid "LJ" sign with his arms (thank God we don't have to see that anymore) and Spike Lee was arguing with Reggie Miller from his courtside seat. Amare said it best when he signed as a free agent last year, "The NY Knicks are back!". I just feel sorry for whoever they match-up with in the playoffs. Unless you're the battle tested Celtics, you're not prepared for Madison Square Garden in May during playoff basketball. Eastern Conference.....you have been warned!
