Quantcast 2011 Los Angeles Lakers Basketball: Lakers vs Bulls

Lakers fall to Bulls on Christmas Day

The new look Lakers faced Derrick Rose and the Bulls on Christmas Day, with much uncertainty surrounding them. A shortened preseason, a new coach, new role players, an injured Kobe, and no Andrew Bynum for the first four games had Laker fans anxious about the start of their season.

The Lakers were part of another thrilling game, as the game went back and forth, with both teams making runs. In the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, a crucial turnover by the Lakers allowed Derrick Rose to make a floater with 4.8 seconds to go, which put the Bulls up by 1. With one last possession, the Lakers gave the ball to who else, the “Black Mamba” Kobe Bryant. As Bryant drove it into the lane, he tried to create his own shot, only to have it blocked. The Bulls celebrate a comeback victory, as they come out victorious 88-87.

The Lakers fought hard all game, limiting the Bulls to only 12 points in the third quarter. However, turnovers and missed free throws hurt the Lakers, as they could not capitalize in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. There are bright spots in this roster however, as Kobe finished with 28 points and Gasol finished with 14. New acquisitions Josh McRoberts and Troy Murphy had 8 rebounds apiece, which is exciting to see from a Laker fan’s perspective. With a shortened season, the Lakers are currently part of a back to back to back series, as they face the Kings on Monday, and the Jazz on Tuesday.
