Quantcast 2012 Dallas Mavericks Basketball: Mavs back on track

Mavs Back on Track

IThe defending world champions Dallas Mavericks are over the .500 mark for the first time this season by defeating the Boston Celtics 90-85. From the TD Garden this game had an intensity that would match a playoff game. Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle was ejected in the third quarter after he stormed onto the court after complaining to referee about Kevin Garnett’s holding of Mavs superstar Dirk Nowitzki. Carlisle emotional exit from the game seemed to be the Mavericks wake-up call as Dallas scored the next 24 out of 30 points in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Dirk Nowitzki showed shadows of his clutch traits that got him over the hump this past June. Going 5 for 11 from the floor and scoring 16 points in the game, Dirk’s most important points came with five seconds left in the game. Getting past Kevin Garnett and his stingy defense, Dirk made a 3 point play that sunk the Celtics and surpassed the Mavericks to a 6-5 record and back to back road game wins for the first time this season. Jason Terry led the team in scoring with 18 points off the bench, as Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with 24 points respectively.

One of the main keys to the game was Dallas’s ability to dominate Boston on the boards with defensive rebounding 12 to 2. After last night’s game Dallas has moved into the number one slot with the most defensive rebounds in the NBA. A win that arguably is the biggest of the year has sparked the Mavs with some confidence to go on a little run as they head back to the American Airlines Center to face teams like Milwaukee and Sacramento starting Friday night. With injuries to Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, head coach Rick Carlisle knows that the time is now, as he spoke on the importance to start clicking together as a team “It's really big for us to get three wins consecutively without Jason Kidd. The team's finding itself a little bit." There next measuring stick will come when Dallas travels west to face Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers Monday night.
