Quantcast 2012 Dallas Mavericks Basketball: Mavs go 1-3 on Road Trip

Mavs Finish 1-3 in West Coast Trip

Nowadays in the association, every team will eventually run into a stretch of back to back road games due to the shorten season. The Dallas Mavericks just concluded a west coast road trip that saw them go 1-3 in a span of four nights that included the Lakers, Clippers and Utah Jazz. Both games at the Staples Center came down to the wire. On Monday Night the Mavs fell to the Lakers 70-73. Jason Terry hit a game tying shot that was answered by Derek Fisher’s game winning 3 point shot. At the end of the game Vince Carter sprained his left foot which later was described by Rick Carlisle as “mild” with no timetable on his return. The Mavs stopped Kobe Bryant’s four game streak of 40 points or more. Shawn Marion played excellent defense as Kobe did not score another point when Marion was substituted to guard the Black Mamba in the 4th quarter w 7:03 left in the game.

On Wednesday Night the CP3-less Clippers defeated Dallas 91-89. Jason Terry once again nailed a 3 point shot with five seconds left only to have Chauncey Billups hit a 3 point game winner with 1 second left to spoil the Mavs victory. Jason Terry leads the NBA with seventeen 3 pointers in the 4th quarter this year, and marked the first time the Clippers defeated the Mavericks since November 3, 2003. After two tough losses the next morning Dallas flew into Salt Lake City around 3 am and showed some toughness versus a young and upcoming Jazz team. Four technical fouls were given out as Dallas shot 52 percent and defeated the Utah Jazz 94-91. Dirk Nowitzki with only 12 points took one shot in the 4th quarter seemed a little fatigue. Roddy Beaboius had a huge 4th quarter with 8 points and a key block and steal. Dirk spoke on Roddy’s huge game. “He keeps teasing us. This is definitely the Roddy we want to see.” Shawn Marion rose as the leading scorer with 22 points and has become the defensive leader that Tyson Chandler was to Dallas last year.

This team is showing the experience that a group of hard working veterans bring to the table day in and day out. When Dirk is having an off night others have stepped up to the plate. It has not been the best start to a Maverick season counting all the last second losses and stretches of back to back away games along with the tough transitions for key additions like Lamar Odom, the Mavericks will just not go silently into the night. Dallas is now 9-7 and second in the Southwest Conference behind the San Antonio Spurs and will travel to New Orleans to play the Hornets on Saturday.
