Homecoming in Los AngelesBaron Davis verbally commits to Clippers
July 2 – NBA veteran, Baron Davis, has verbally committed to sign a 5-year deal with the L.A. Clippers for an estimated $65 million. To Davis and to everyone else, this was a no brainer, considering that the Warriors were only going to offer him a 1-2 year contract to stay in the Bay area. One has to wonder if the Warriors are emphatically shocked to lose their star point guard.
The Clippers may not be an instant title contender now, but they certainly make the Western Conference even more competitive… adding more stars to watch in Los Angeles. Certainly Davis is glad to be able to return and play in his hometown, while the Golden State Warriors are left a lot less talented. The Clippers hope to bring back their franchise player, Elton Brand, which combined with Davis promises to put more people in the seats at the Staples Center to watch games next season. This may not be a blockbuster deal like Garnet to the Celtics last year, but the Clippers are definitely instantly better than they were this past season. This also finally gives Brand solid help in being able to actually compete consistently in the Western conference.
